Drama at Windlesham House

Drama is a thriving and inclusive part of life at Windlesham House, helping pupils develop confidence, creativity, communication skills and self-belief from an early age. Whether performing on stage, working behind the scenes or creating digital content, every child is encouraged to explore their talents and find their voice.

What productions have our pupils staged?

This year, our productions of James and the Giant Peach and Oliver! were standout moments for the school community. Bringing together pupils from Years 3 to 8, the productions showcased an impressive range of talent and creativity, involving large casts and crews both on and off stage. The performances were warmly received by audiences, but it was the rehearsal journey that proved equally valuable. Pupils developed confidence, teamwork and communication skills while working collaboratively towards a shared goal, with older pupils naturally mentoring younger performers throughout the process.

How does drama go beyond the stage?

Drama extends well beyond traditional theatre. Within lessons, pupils explore filming, editing and digital performance, developing skills that reflect the evolving world of storytelling and creative communication. These experiences encourage imagination, collaboration and critical thinking while introducing children to modern performance techniques.

Is drama for every child?

Inclusion is central to our approach. All children in Pre-Prep and Years 1 to 4 participate in productions, ensuring every pupil experiences the excitement of performing. As pupils move through the school, opportunities become increasingly flexible. Those who love the spotlight are encouraged to perform, while others may choose backstage, technical or production roles. Whatever their level of confidence or experience, every child has a valued role to play.

What does drama give our pupils?

At Windlesham House, drama is about far more than performance. It nurtures resilience, empathy, creativity and confidence, equipping children with skills that will benefit them throughout their education and beyond.

Drama in our co-curricular programme

Drama is woven throughout the co-curricular life of Windlesham House. From productions and showcases to LAMDA, devising groups and performance opportunities, pupils are encouraged to take creative risks, support one another and discover the confidence that comes from expressing themselves. Whether a child dreams of the stage or simply wishes to find their voice, there is a place for everyone to participate, contribute and shine.
