Why do international families choose Windlesham House?

We have a rich tradition of boarding and academic achievement. Our ethos of respect and kindness ensures children flourish. They have the space and freedom to enjoy a wide range of activities and sports, as well as facilities and exceptional staff enabling them to expand their knowledge and intellectual curiosity.

Windlesham House is a distinctive school where tradition meets innovation, offering opportunities for children to be creative, courageous, successful and happy.

What facilities support international pupils?

Our 25 metre swimming pool, nine-hole golf course, four fully equipped science labs, art and design suite, personal development department, woods, fields, all weather pitch, theatre, drama studio, sports hall, library and much more provide everything that you could want for an exceptional prep school education.

Children flourish, grow and develop academically and personally, preparing them for their senior schools and beyond.

What boarding options are available for international pupils?

Full boarding

Full boarding pupils board for five nights or more. This allows them to take full advantage of all the endless opportunities at Windlesham House and avoid time spent travelling to and from school. They complete their prep at school and enjoy their weekend either at home or at school where there is always an array of outings and activities.

With over sixty full boarders, the evenings and weekends are far from dull. There is always someone to play with or talk to. Whether your child’s preferred activities are sports, reading or art, they will find things that they enjoy. There are caring boarding staff and matrons to look after your child and guide them towards greater independence.

One term boarding

We welcome pupils for one, two or three terms. Spending a term at Windlesham House allows pupils to sample the benefits of a boarding prep school education. Many of our one term pupils make incredible friends, coming back year after year and often returning for a full year or more.

What is English as an Additional Language (EAL) support?

For pupils whose first language is not English, we provide specialist EAL support to help them develop their language skills quickly and confidently. Our experienced EAL teachers work with pupils individually and in small groups, focusing on

  • Academic English for success across the curriculum
  • Conversational skills for social situations
  • Subject specific vocabulary
  • Reading and writing skills
  • Pronunciation and listening comprehension

Pupils receiving EAL support are fully integrated into mainstream classes and quickly become confident English speakers.

How do international pupils fit into school life?

Windlesham House has a genuinely international community, with pupils from diverse cultural backgrounds. This diversity enriches school life for everyone, creating a globally-minded environment where children learn from each other.

International pupils participate fully in all aspects of school life, from lessons to sports, music, drama and weekend activities. They make strong friendships with British and international pupils alike, creating a supportive community.
