How do we cater for all abilities?
Inclusive participation
Sport at Windlesham House is for everyone, not just the naturally athletic. We run multiple teams in each sport so pupils of all abilities can represent the school and experience competitive matches. No child is left on the sidelines.
Skill development focus
Rather than just playing games, we dedicate time to skill development ensuring all pupils make progress. Coaches differentiate activities so everyone is appropriately challenged whether they are beginners or advanced players.
Non-competitive options
For pupils who prefer non-competitive physical activity, we offer options like yoga, recreational swimming, dance, and outdoor exploration. The goal is lifelong physical activity, not just competitive sport.
Adapted
For pupils with physical challenges or additional needs, we adapt activities and provide individual support ensuring they can participate fully and safely.
What about coaching and staffing?
Our sports programme is led by qualified, experienced PE teachers who are passionate about developing young athletes and promoting healthy active living.
In addition to our teaching staff, we employ specialist coaches for sports including
- Professional tennis coaches
- Golf professional
- Swimming coaches (Level 2 qualified minimum)
- Football coaches with FA qualifications
- Rugby coaches
- Cricket professionals
This combination of excellent teachers and specialist coaches ensures high-quality instruction across all sports.
What sporting achievements have pupils reached?
Windlesham House pupils regularly achieve success at county, regional and national levels across multiple sports. Recent achievements include
- ESSA (English Schools Swimming Association) national qualifiers
- IAPS swimming, netball, basketball, athletics, golf and other championships
- NFL Flag regionals and nationals
- County representation in multiple sports
- Charterhouse prep schools golf tournament winners
- Regional football and rugby tournament success
- Individual national swimming championships representation
These successes reflect our excellent coaching, facilities, and the hard work and dedication of our pupils. However, we celebrate all achievements, from personal bests to first goals, recognizing that success looks different for each individual.
Does every child get to play in matches?
We aim for maximum participation in matches. By running multiple teams (A, B, C, D teams and more in popular sports), we ensure as many pupils as possible experience competitive fixtures. While the most skilled players typically represent higher teams, we believe match experience is valuable for all and structure our fixture list accordingly.
What if my child has never played these sports before?
That is absolutely fine. We teach all sports from basics and cater for beginners through to advanced players. Children pick up skills quickly when taught well and playing with peers. Many pupils discover sports they love at Windlesham House that they had never tried before. Our inclusive approach means no prior experience is necessary.
Do you offer sports scholarships?
We identify talented sports people and provide academy opportunities for intensive training. We also prepare pupils for sports scholarship assessments at senior schools through our coaching programmes and competitive match experience.
What about sports kit and equipment?
All major sports equipment is provided by school. Pupils need sports kit (detailed list provided on admission) including rugby boots, trainers, swimming costume etc. The school shop stocks all required items. For sports like golf, tennis and riding, personal equipment may be needed though school has equipment for PE lessons.
