Year 8 pupils recently took part in an inspiring two-day leadership programme, designed to challenge, develop and prepare them for the exciting opportunities and responsibilities of their final year at Windlesham House.
Working in teams, the children tackled a variety of practical challenges that tested their communication, problem-solving and teamwork skills. From the very beginning, they approached each task with enthusiasm and determination, supporting one another and demonstrating excellent collaboration throughout. It was particularly rewarding to hear the external provider praise the pupils for their engagement, maturity and outstanding behaviour, describing them as a pleasure to work with and a credit to the school.
A key part of the programme involved developing navigation and outdoor skills as the pupils journeyed to their campsite at Gallops Farm. We are extremely grateful to the Gale family for kindly allowing us to use their field and being such a welcoming host.
Once at camp, the children pitched their tents and enjoyed a delicious outdoor supper prepared by our catering team. As evening fell, they gathered around fire pits to enjoy s’mores under a beautifully clear night sky. The conditions were so impressive that the group was even able to spot the Milky Way. Surprise visits from Mr Hallam and Mrs Baber added to the excitement and helped make the evening even more memorable.
The following morning, after breakfast and a careful pack-up of the campsite, the cohort walked back to school together before seamlessly returning to lessons and activities.
More than anything, the programme gave pupils the opportunity to develop confidence, resilience, leadership and teamwork while creating lasting memories with their peers. It was a fantastic experience for all involved and a wonderful way to strengthen relationships across the year group.
A huge congratulations to every pupil who took part, and of course to the victorious team, who may or may not have been called The Gherkins!
