Algebra can be a scary concept but not at our school. What better way to engage the children than to use a medium they understand – sweets. Year 6 children have been using the Algebra Sweet Shop to understand and practise the skills of simplifying, solving and even expanding brackets. The children have really enjoyed and grasped the concept of Algebra.
They have also been learning about probability with a human fruit machine, dice games and various real-life scenarios. We discussed why gambling is so dangerous and our mathematical investigations fully supported this conclusion.
Algebra is seriously awesome!
