In January as a new year resolution Ben Evans, our headmaster, set a target to teach himself the piano, which has always been an ambition of his. In our last assembly of 2023 Ben performed for the first time ever on a musical instrument in front of an audience. This is what he had to say:

“Today, I performed for the first time ever on a musical instrument in front of an audience. To say that I was nervous was an understatement! My early morning practices have been going quite well recently but nothing could prepare me for sitting in front of 350 people at the grand piano in the MFT. For many years I have watched children do exactly the same thing and admired their confidence and accomplishment. Only today we celebrated 24 pupils passing their recent ABRSM exams, a number with distinction. As a complete beginner, I hope I was able to demonstrate that even at my age, it is okay to feel nervous, try something new and make mistakes – I made more than one during my short rendition of Deck the Halls. I, also, hope I was able demonstrate in action our learning habits – most particularly, resilience and risk taking!”
