Today we hosted the Southern Area Regional Cross-Country Championships for Years 5 & 6. On a day which saw the best young runners from the surrounding area compete both as individuals and teams, Windlesham House welcomed 450 athletes from 20 different schools across four different races to our hallowed turf.  On a glorious day for cross-country, we had 31 runners make it to their respective start lines, despite plenty of illness, injury and other absences. Excitingly, any runner who finished in the top 20 of their race, they would be able to be selected for the Sussex finals which are held in March. Our U10 runners, Marlin, Holly and Naomi, secured their places too!  Holly was our top finisher on the day with a silver medal – while Jack, Poppy, Charlotte and Obaro competing in the U11s category secured their places. There were plenty of others not far behind including Ottilia in 21st and Clemmie, one of six Year 4s running up a year in 28th.

The best achievement was conquering the course and doing the best you could for your team and in this respect every single Windlesham House runner achieved this. The all-important team prizes were announced as part of the final presentation and it was definitely a case of ‘girl power’ as our Year 5 & 6 girls’ teams both finished as CHAMPIONS.  Well done to everyone for a fantastic afternoon of cross-country.
