On 15 January, three of our standout Year 7 pupils represented Windlesham House at the Wollaston competition held at Charterhouse. Competing against ten schools from across Sussex and Surrey, our team demonstrated exceptional skill, grit and scientific curiosity.
The challenges
The competition pushed students to apply their classroom knowledge to rigorous practical scenarios:
Chemistry (joint 1st place) Pupils performed a flame test, using the unique colours produced by different metal ions to identify unknown substances
Biology (3rd place): A “whodunnit” forensic investigation that required keen observation and analytical thinking to solve a mystery
Physics: A circuit challenge that tested their understanding of electricity and component assembly under pressure
Overall victory
While the tasks were demanding, our pupils showed increasing cohesion and teamwork as the afternoon progressed. Thanks to their consistent performance across all three disciplines, they were crowned the overall winners of the competition!
We are incredibly proud of their conduct and their ability to represent the school with such a positive and persevering attitude. Congratulations to our winning team.
