We believe that computing is not just about using computers; it’s about understanding how they work, creating with them, and using them responsibly. Our computing curriculum goes beyond teaching technical skills like coding. We place a strong emphasis on fostering a fun learning environment where children develop essential life skills such as creativity, innovation, critical thinking and problem-solving abilities. Our computing department is at the forefront of preparing pupils for the digital age, focusing on skills that are essential for success in an ever-evolving technological landscape.
Our curriculum, aligned with the national curriculum and accredited by the National Centre of Computing Excellence, offers a comprehensive approach to digital education. We cover a wide range of skills, from computer science to information technology and digital citizenship, ensuring our pupils are well-rounded in their technological capabilities.
At the heart of our teaching is our state-of-the-art technology. Our innovative “Hub” and bring your own device program provide pupils with hands-on experience using modern tools. We integrate computing across all subjects through our online learning platform – Google Workspace for Education, ensuring that digital skills are not isolated but woven into the fabric of all learning at Windlesham House.
For our older pupils in Years 6, 7, and 8, we offer a bring your own device (BYOD) program. This initiative empowers pupils to seamlessly transition between learning environments.
The benefits of our BYOD program extend far beyond simple convenience. For pupils , it fosters independent learning and digital literacy. allowing for more personalised learning experiences, as pupils can use apps and tools that best suit their individual learning styles and offer the ability to access educational resources anytime, anywhere, promoting self-directed study and research skills.
For our teaching staff, the BYOD program opens up new possibilities in classroom instruction. Teachers can implement more interactive and engaging lessons. It enables teachers to more easily differentiate instruction, catering to various learning needs within the classroom and allows for real-time collaboration and feedback, enhancing the learning process.
Our commitment to computing education extends beyond regular classes. We offer a range of exciting co-curricular activities, including coding clubs, robotics with LEGO®, Minecraft and graphic design workshops. These opportunities allow pupils to explore their interests and develop specialised skills in a fun, collaborative environment.
We also encourage our pupils to test their skills on a broader stage. Windlesham House regularly participates in competitions such as the FIRST Lego League, the UK Bebras Challenge and more recently the International Primary Coding league, giving our pupils the chance to showcase their abilities and learn from peers across the world.
One of our most unique initiatives is the “Digital Leaders Programme.” This program empowers selected pupils across the school to become technology ambassadors within our school. These Digital Leaders not only deepen their own understanding of technology but also help to foster a culture of digital enthusiasm and expertise among the school community.
