Another hugely busy autumn term of sport at Windlesham House draws to a close. In all, there have been over 250 matches, festivals and tournaments to date, spanning 50 different teams. All of our four core team sports for the term have had challenging fixture lists but pupils continue to work hard in training and improve every week.

The boys’ football teams just about broke even from their 80 games, with the Colts D posting the terms only unbeaten record, six wins and a draw coming from their seven matches. With a lot more girls than ever picking up a stick for the first time, statistics will never do justice to the hockey season we have just had. It has been particularly gratifying watching so many of the girls really ‘get into’ their hockey and understand it could be the game for them. The Colts B were the standout team with five wins, two draws and only one loss from eight.

The boys moved onto rugby shortly after half term and have already squeezed in 50 matches despite the usual inclement weather. There has been plenty of promise on show from the U8-13, with Mr Hallam’s 1st XIII putting together the most impressive season so far, going unbeaten in their last five games after two early losses to tough opponents.  Even though the netball season is still in its infancy, the girls have for the most part got off to a flying start with 13 games won from the 24 fixtures played so far.  As with rugby, our 1st VII are leading the way on the numbers front with four wins from five games played and plenty of action still to come against Cottesmore on Saturday and St Andrew’s next Wednesday.

Another feature of the autumn term is the cross-country. A vibrant inter-house competition won by the pinks of Grenfell was the sandwich filling between a host of different inter-school events.  Early season runouts at Seaford saw 90 children run for the school and paved the way for success at the Ardingly championships, where our U13 boys and girls both finished as champions. This was followed after half-term by our year 6 mixed relay team winning our own race for the first time since 2019 in a course record time. Swimmers, golfers, dancers, riders, basketballers, NFL Flag footballers and table tennis players are amongst other budding sports stars working on their craft and having fun this term and we look forward to what the new year will bring in a spring term, which is always, if anything, even busier. A huge thanks to all those involved in every aspect of Windlesham sport, a massive well done to all the children and a very Merry Christmas to everyone from the sports department.
