‘Enhancing the facilities at Windlesham is crucial to our success’

Capital development plans

Our vision is to ensure that Windlesham House School remains one of the country’s happiest, most inspirational and innovative prep-schools. Windlesham has always led by example, we were the first prep school to become co-educational and the first to have our own swimming pool.

While the academic curriculum is at the core of what we do, sports and extra-curricular activities develop our children’s independence and co-operation, greatly supporting their learning in the classroom. There is no doubt that having the right facilities in place is key to enabling us to do this.

Much has been achieved already. We are very grateful to those who have made generous donations in the past which, together with the wise allocation of our surplus funds, has allowed us to make significant improvements to our facilities.

Our capital development plans divide into three phases:

Phase 1: Campbell field astro- Completed

In December 2014 we successfully completed the Campbell Field Astro, freeing up the space for the new pool and sports hall where the old astro-turf was located.

In addition to new astro-turf, this project included complex ground works, a road upgrade, floodlighting, 8 additional cricket nets, spectator shelters and an ancilliary building with WCs and storage. We are enormously grateful to those who made donations towards this project.

Phase 2: A new swimming pool and sports hall

Our current swimming pool was built over 60 years ago. Although early for a prep school, our pool now needs to be updated in order to keep up with technology and modern pool design. Our construction completion date is expected to be December 2017. The new pool will feature:

25 metre 6 lane indoor pool
• Large enough for inter-house galas and competitions
• Depth of 90 cm shallow end to 1.8 metre depth in deep end
• Latest technology for water filtration and ventilation
• Viewing area for spectators

4 indoor playing courts
• Accommodating basketball, netball, hockey, tennis and badminton
• Court area will be 7.5 metres high
• Viewing area for spectators

Changing rooms and offices
• Male and female changing rooms
• Boot rooms and storage areas
• Offices for PE staff

Phase 3: Upgrading the Malden Family Theatre

The Malden Family Theatre was built in the 1980s. This multi-purpose theatre is in constant use by our children and the local community. When the new sports facility is complete, we will be able to use the theatre exclusively for performing arts. This will unlock the full potential of the Malden Family Theatre, enhancing both our sports and performing arts offering.

Design and construction

Design and construction

The conceptual design for the new pool and sports hall was undertaken by local award-winning firm Neil Holland Architects. They were commissioned to develop the design. Once planning permission was secured, the school appointed Kier Southern, a leading construction group, to deliver the new facility.

In addition to building the new pool and sports hall, this project includes complex ground works and excavation, road upgrades, new parking spaces and driveways, new trees and hedges, a green roof, new biomass boiler, PV panels and various utility upgrades.

How you can help
