Pupils from Years 2 to 8 were treated to an enchanting visit from celebrated children’s author Ross Welford this week. The writer, known for his imaginative stories blending science fiction with magic and everyday life, captivated our school community with both his literary insights and surprising magical talents.
Welford began his presentation by seemingly proving his time-travelling credentials through a series of clever magic tricks that left pupils gasping in delight. The highlight came when he mysteriously pulled one of his books from what had appeared to be an empty bag just moments before as well as telling us about a page from a book he had hidden in a box in 2026!
In one memorable moment, Welford used an ordinary kitchen whisk as a prop to demonstrate how writers “whip up” their imagination, encouraging students to find inspiration in everyday objects and experiences.
During the session, Welford discussed his latest book, “Time Travelling with a Tortoise,” which continues his tradition of blending fantastical elements with relatable characters and emotional depth.
