It has been as interesting week, which is always the case when a whole year group are away from school. On the whole, the Twos have risen to my challenge that they step up as role models in all spheres of school life. It has been great to see the new Peer Listeners in action and they have certainly recognised the importance of their role.
We have all been affected by the very disappointing weather; it is always such a shame when matches and activities have to be called off. Our thoughts have been with the Ones on their Bushcraft Camping Week. I took the decision to drive up to Oxford last Wednesday afternoon to visit them and to make sure they were surviving. Much to my delight, they were in good spirits.
On Friday just as our Pre-Prep Sports Day was coming to an end, the sight of two coaches returning the Ones is an image that will live long in the memory. To their credit, by the time I was back up at school armed with all their C.E. results, they had all showered and tidied themselves up.
It has to be one of the best moments in the year for every Prep School Headmaster when you make the entrance to declare such all important news to such a captive audience. The sheer delight on their faces as you confirm they have all been offered places at their first choice of schools is a moment to treasure.
My goodness we have so much to be pleased about and a great deal to celebrate. I can not recall ever seeing so many A* and A’s. A very significant number of our candidates have recorded sets of results that can only be described as outstanding.
I am very much looking forward to seeing the analysis of all our results. I believe it will make for good reading…. watch this space.
No doubt many of you will have heard the announcement by the Government last weekend that they are going to change the date of the early May Bank Holiday next year in order for the whole country to join in the 75th Anniversary of VE Day celebrations on Friday, 8th May and over the weekend. We have therefore taken the decision that we should move our previously announced Long Weekend – which was due to be on the weekend before – to coincide with the new date of the bank holiday.
Thus, the Long Weekend in early May 2020, will now start at 4.20 p.m. on Thursday, 7th May (Pre-Prep at 3.30 p.m.) and boarders should return either by 7.30 p.m. on Sunday, 10thMay or by 8.10 a.m. on Monday, 11th May, when the day children should also return.
A copy of next year’s amended term dates is on our website.
