Two weeks into the new term and we are still enjoying the Indian Summer weather. It has certainly helped to make the start of the new academic year as straight forward as any I can recall.
We have lovely new children, lots of whom are clearly gifted and talented and each one of the new staff has made an excellent first impression. This has compensated for the news that a couple of long serving staff have decided to move on at the end of the academic year.
Highlights so far:
- One must be the super work ethic within the school, led by the Ones (Top Year, Year 8). This is very heartening indeed and, as I always say, filters down to the youngest members of the school.
- The truly uplifting singing in chapel, especially knowing that a quarter of the congregation are new! Our guest speaker, Martin Reader, the new Headmaster of Cranleigh, said; “ You can judge the spirit within a school by their singing”– I believe he is right and that we made quite an impression!
- We now boast the British Junior Kite Surfing champion in the school in young Tom Seager. He is only 11 and yet won the Under 15 title. Next up, the World Championships!
- Our Fives (Year 4) went on an outing last week. I hope and trust any group from Windlesham will be good ambassadors and I always remind them of this. I gathered afterwards that the volunteers from that particular venue purposely sign up when they see a group from Windlesham are coming, so engaging are the children. That’s an accolade to be proud of!
All our new parents should feel very proud of their children who have started with us. They and everyone else will be mightily pleased to be reunited with their families this weekend. I will be honest and admit to being glued to the coverage of the Ryder Cup. I hope to goodness it is being televised in Bermuda where I am spending the next few days attending a Schools Show and presenting to parents the merits of boarding at a top school in the UK. There will be a little bias towards Windlesham and co-education!
