Windlesham House is a forward-looking prep school with well-rounded children that benefit from a purposeful curriculum that develops confident and caring global citizens with a wide-range of skills. We are committed to an education in service of society that instils good character values in our young people and inspires them to make a positive contribution. Windlesham is part of the Step Up To Serve #iwill Campaign launched by HRH The Prince of Wales which encourages young people to actively engage in a life lived in service of others. Evidence-based research shows that positive action in service of others creates more positive people, providing a double benefit for both individuals and society.

Windlesham had the pleasure of hosting the launch for the INSPIRE peace-building initiative engaging schools across the UK. Lord Hastings, Head of Global Citizenship for KPMG International, introduced the launch, which was attended by many Heads of Prep and Senior schools. Following the event, Miranda Clark, our Head of Art and a number of children from a range of yeargroups created a beautiful Peace Dove mosaic. This is a symbol of peace-building that will serve as a legacy to inspire the next generation of peacemakers. Richard Foster was the first independent school Head to sign the INSPIRE Peace Charter, which was promoted at the 2018 BSA Heads’ Conference by the BSA Chairman in his opening address. The Peace Charter is a commitment from schools to actively support and live out the values of peace building as urged by the United Nations.

Our INSPIRE Peace Dove mosaic has been installed in Chapel in connection with our Armistice Day 2018 centenary commemorations. Windlesham supports INSPIRE and the call to action to create a movement for change – inspiring young people to become peace builders and future leaders for a better world. On the morning of Friday 9th November Windlesham will take part in the national INSPIRE movement in our whole-school Chapel assembly. Thousands of young people and teachers will gather in schools and a range of venues across England, Wales and Northern Ireland to reflect on ‘Remembrance for Peace’ – taking a stand for peace in our world. The Windlesham Christmas Card this term has our INSPIRE Peace Dove mosaic on the front cover and proceeds from the card are going to charities supported by Windlesham.

As part of INSPIRE, Windlesham have used this year’s centenary of the end of World War One, to call young people to take a stand for peace. Following the launch of INSPIRE at Windlesham, thousands of young people have been engaged and inspired – mobilising young people to commemorate those who have given their lives in conflict, collaborate with others to become a nation of peace builders, and celebrate a hopeful future that can be achieved as we all work together in alignment with the UN 2030 Global Goals.

A programme will be broadcast on BBC1 during Remembrance Sunday and Armistice Day to showcase the positive impact of INSPIRE. For further information on INSPIRE ‘Remembrance for Peace’ events, please get in touch or see resources here.

A huge thank you to Miranda Clark and the staff and children for supporting INSPIRE. Together we can make a difference and create a better and more peaceful world.

‘It is not enough to talk about peace. One must believe in it – and it isn’t enough to believe in peace. We must work at it.’ Eleanor Roosevelt
