“If we teach today’s students as we did yesterday’s then we rob them of tomorrow” – John Dewey (philosopher, psychologist and educational reformer)

Information Technology is an integral part of our everyday lives. With this in mind we make ICT an exciting, interactive and motivational part of education at Windlesham. Windlesham is well resourced for ICT with a high density WiFi network across the school site, four computer rooms and Music and DT technology areas. There are also banks of iPADS and laptops together with classrooms equipped with PCs and interactive whiteboards. Because of this we are able to give the children the opportunity to use a wide range of technology where it is best placed – in the classroom.

As technology is always moving forwards, we pride ourselves with being up-to-date. We teach children to use a range of industry standard products such as Microsoft Office, Adobe Photoshop and Premiere. The children all learn touch typing and are introduced to computational thinking using a wide range of programmes, including Scratch – a programming language and online community where you can create your own interactive stories, games, and animations.

Communication is at the heart of everything we do at Windlesham so email and Skype are essential tools for the children to be able to communicate with their parents, even more so for overseas families.

E-safety is foremost at Windlesham and our children are protected when using our school network. Each child signs an Acceptable Use Policy which is designed to keep them safe and every year group receives age appropriate internet safety training on an ongoing basis. Our staff are trained in how to be aware of and recognise e-safety issues and we often invite experts in e-safety to come in to school and talk to the children, parents and staff about how to stay safe online.
