Technology driving change in education

Our educational landscape has changed dramatically over recent years and technology has become a major driver of this change. We are now able to use some amazing tools as part of our learning to make this a truly great and exciting time to be involved in education.

At Windlesham, a real emphasis has been placed on developing our students into responsible, effective and creative users of technology, to develop their skills of Computer Science, Digital Literacy, Information Technology and Digital Citizenship. All students throughout the School receive weekly Computing lessons which are taught by specialists in one of two purpose built labs. In the classrooms, learning experiences are enhanced and transformed by the integration of iPads. Our top year groups are provided their own device by the School and we also have banks of iPads to support different curriculum areas and year groups.

″ICT is very strong at Windlesham. Prep school pupils have their own iPads for lesson time and these are used across the curriculum″

Digital Leaders

We have an active “Digital Leaders’ programme” at the School. A Digital Leaders’ role is to support the use and to further the development of Digital Technology within our school. Digital Leaders are given the necessary training and support to develop specific areas of Digital Technology expertise. These areas of expertise can be self determined, or may be a particular request for a specific item of hardware or software.

A core outcome for our students is to be responsible digital citizens. Through regular lessons, we develop the skills of being responsible online and provide strategies on how to avoid the many pitfalls. In addition, we run Techmeet Ups for our parents so that they can keep upto date on the latest developments and assist their children in staying safe online.

Co-curricular activities

At Windlesham, we provide a range of opportunities for the children to learn about Robotics. With the LEGO® Mindstorms EV3 we host a popular co-curricular activity which sees members designing Robots to compete in the First Lego League. We have expanded this provision and students are now using LEGO® Mindstorms EV3 and We Do 2.0 across a range of subject areas.

This really is one of the best times to be involved in Education with the vast range of tools available to students and teachers and at Windlesham we are enjoying every step of the journey.
