WHA CENTENARY 1910-2010

We will be marking the centenary with a fantastic celebration on Sunday 4th July 2010 as part of the School's spectacular Odyssey weekend. This will be open to all ages and is likely to include a Luncheon Party and you will be able to share in all the Odyssey events. Indeed, you may wish to attend the Odyssey events throughout the two days of Saturday 3rd and Sunday 4th July. More details will follow.

It is also felt appropriate that we compile a selection of memories of former pupils, parents, staff and governors about their time at Windlesham. May I ask you to give some serious thought to sending in your own personal reminiscences to me (rmartin@windlesham.com) as soon as possible. Recalling those light-hearted moments is equally as important as making more sober observations!

SPOTTED!

Dr Martha Holmes ('71), marine biologist and wildlife film maker for the BBC, wrote a very thoughtful article, 'The Price We Pay For Caging Them', in The Daily Mail on Friday 26th February. It was a response to the sad death of Dawn Brancheau, the trainer of killer whale Tillikum and in the article she argued most cogently that such creatures should never be kept in captivity.

Jethro Lyne ('85) was to be heard on a recent BBC Radio 4 mini-documentary talking about his father, Sir Rod Lyne, who is currently engaged in the Hutton Enquiry into the Iraq War.

Thom Evans ('98) was unfortunately rather badly injured while playing for Scotland in a recent Six Nations international. We send him our very best wishes for a speedy recovery.

Rob Appleby ('74), the CIO of Hong Kong-based ADM Capital has had a new species of frog named after him. The new frog was discovered in Vietnamese ponds during scientific research which Rob's company sponsors. The new name is 'Appleby's Asian Toad' and it even has a Latin translation, 'Leptoalax applebyi'. As for Rob, he is now of course being referred to as the Frog Prince of Hong Kong.

Edward Harber ('97) was to be heard on the Wednesday 20th January edition of Radio 4's Money Box Live. He was giving advice on his specialism, which is helping people to cope with debt.
