Academic excellence is at the core of what we do at Windlesham. Every child is encouraged to achieve their full potential whether that’s an academic scholarship, or the ability to confidently assimilate the basic curriculum.
Our small classes enable our specialist teachers to give each child the support and encouragement they need. Pupils are taught in a mixture of sets and forms so that they learn with others of equal ability. The gifted and talented are stimulated through scholars’ evenings with exciting speakers; whilst one-to-one lessons provide help whenever it is needed.
All the major subjects are taught, including French from a young age, Drama and Dance. Children are introduced to Spanish and Latin at ages 9 and 10, as well as being given the chance to study Food Technology and Textiles. Information Technology is an integral part of all academic subjects and often provides the platform for children to explore new ideas and experiences.
Extensive and modern facilities include three Science laboratories, a music room, dance studio, theatre, sports hall, plus wonderful playing fields and a swimming pool. There is an extensive Design Centre and the IT facilities include four computer rooms within the school. The new Windlesham Library (opened in September 2009) is situated at the heart of the School, and is open every day, all day, and provides a warm and welcoming environment for the children to read, research and study.
The education at Windlesham is broad and the challenges are many for the children. We place a great deal of emphasis on praise and encouragement with many prizes and certificates, so that everyone feels valued and is able to contribute. Parents are involved in this process with regular reports, which reflect our assessment of the progress being made, during and at the end of term.
Whatever the age of entry (which can be anywhere from 4 to 12), our aim is to give Windlesham pupils the academic ability and self-belief that enables them to move on to their next school with total confidence.
