Tatler’s Schools Guide 2011
Windlesham is a very smart choice for anyone considering full boarding – a very successful prep that bagged the Best International Boarder award from Hobsons this year for the second time in a row. Head Richard Foster has been careful not to rock this steady boat since his arrival in 2008 and he feels ‘as if we’re quite established now’. The impressive main building is a tad shabby but still charming, and the grounds are rather amazing – when the sun shines, pupils have poetry-reading picnics in the Italian gardens, fuelled by cakes and lemonade. When they knuckle down, Common Entrance and scholarship results are strong, and one boy has won this year’s top Eton scholarship, while there are good provisions for dyslexia and other learning difficulties. Dynamic director of Music Mr Hutchings scored again this Summer with Odyssey 2010 – a weekend musical extravaganza with performances from pupils from schools all over Sussex.
